TRADITIONAL GAMES CARNIVAL 2009.
On 6th June 09, Secretariat of Sports and Culture, SRC had organized Traditional GameCarnival 2009 that was open to all Cultural Based Societies (CBSs) and Kulliyyah Based Societies (KBSs). The carnival was held in Saidina Hamzah Male Sport Complex and attracted 200 students to join and took part in the games. The games played by the participants on that day were “permainan guli (marbles), galah panjang, konda-kondi, congkak and teng-teng”. The objectives of organizing such event are to educate local students to appreciate the Malaysian heritage andalso to introduce local culture to the International students. Mdm Norliza Che Hassan, Assistant Director of Cultural and Art Unit said that the programme was good and she said that SRC should try to organize it as an annual event. She mentioned that SRC should also include international traditional games from other countries to make this carnival more interesting and wonderful for the next time.
OPERATION HOUR OF LIBRARY
SRC had received several requests and suggestions from students regarding IIUM Library operation hours. They suggest the library to be opened 24 hours during examination period, especially the reading area. SRC had forwarded the matter to IIUM Library and meet the Assistant Director of Library, Mdm Nuraqmar Az Amirudin. She said the issue has already been raised during library management meeting on June. The demand from students is quite difficult to be fulfilled since the suggestion will involve the extension of IIUM Library staffs shift. Furthermore, it will increase the number of theft cases in library and other security issues. However, the decision is not finite and such suggestion to the IIUM Library can be forwarded to Chief of Librarian through letter. IIUM Library also wants to promote inter-library book loan. Students who are interested to borrow books from any libraries in Malaysia can do so by fulfilling the Inter-Library Loan (ILL) form provided.
