ENGINEERING CONSTITUENCY
ACCREDITATION FOR KULLIYYAH OF ENGINEERING
Last semester we received a complaint from our graduated student that Kulliyyah of Engineering, KOE has problem with accreditation. The problem raised when the student had went through an interview with Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam, JPA. Before the interviewed, JPA told the student that his degree is not accreditation by Malaysian Qualifications Agency, MQA (Agensi Kelayakan Malaysia) previously known Lembaga Akreaditasi Negara, LAN. We had forwarded this issue to the Director of Student Development Division (S-DEV) and Deputy Dean KOE. Our Kulliyyah had check with JPA the KOE status with MQA and it seems that JPA did not update their database.
KOE had followed up JPA and they had updated their database. For further information, kindly refer to http://www.bem.org.my/v3/index.html and http://pengiktirafan.jpa.gov.my/ about accreditation.
TUNNEL FROM KULLIYYAH OF ENGINEERING TO MAHALLAH HAFSA
By referring to our report 3RD REPORT SEM 1 09/10, an action had been taken where we already consulted with the IIUM Properties (IP) on this matter on 24th June 2009. Some pictures of the tunnel were attached with the complaint letter.
On 19th October 2010 after Down to Earth at Mahallah Hafsah, from the surveys that we had conducted, we found that there still flood whenever heavy rain and the students cannot use the tunnel. Thus, we resent a letter to IP with the reference number IIUM/SRC0910/PRES/I/13 and carbon copy it to Deputy Rector (Student Affair), Director of Student Development Division (S-DEV) and Head of Mahallat Administration & Coordination. SRC had a meeting with Br. Haslan, IIUM Properties (IP) in charge of all Kulliyyah's maintenance in IIUM.
Date : 5th January 2011
Time : 3.45pm- 4.30pm
Venue : IIUM Properties Management Services Division
The meeting conducted was referring to the letter sent by SRC dated 25th October 2010. After SRC's visit (Down to Earth) to Mahallah Hafsa on 28th September 2010, we received a lot of complaint with regard to the unsafe condition of a tunnel located near to Kulliyyah of Engineering building. The tunnel was unsafe because:
1. It will flood when raining.
2. During days, lot of tadpoles and other strange animals like snake will be there.
3. The path is watering and very dirty with rubbishes.
Thus, we have sent a letter to IIUM Properties to take an action to the matter forwarded to them. However, due to the late response from the IP, we have set to meet them to discuss the matter personally to figure out the issue ourselves. Here are the responses by the IIUM Properties:
1. The issue actually came from the leaking pipe under the road corner to Clinic and Education. If you notice, there is once in a time, a repair of the leaking pipe was constructed at that area. It was at the early semester 2 2010/2011.
2. However, the pipe is leaking again and need to be repaired. But, the reparation of the pipe would cause the water supply in all IIUM to be cut off for few days.
3. Hence, the decision to repair the pipe will take some time by the management of IP since they have to consider the use of water is prioritize to students here.
4. However, for the construction of the path of tunnel, it will be done very soon. IP will call a contractor to tar the road as soon as possible.
We truly hope that the promises made by the administration will be put into some action. Thank to IIUM Properties (IP) the person in charge of all maintenance in all kulliyyah in IIUM, Br. Haslam.
If you have any ideas on how to improve SRC 2009/2010, kindly forward your comments to http://src-iium.blogspot.com. You are also invited to visit our office at level 4, above CCAC.
