ENGINEERING CONSTITUENCY
WIRELESS ACCESSIBILTY AT IIUM
Since 5 years ago, SRC has fight for getting the wireless at our campus. At the beginning, SRC 2007/2008 managed to get the wireless accessibility only at Kulliyyah. Then, SRC 2009/2010 continues to get the accessibility at Mahallah.
On 12th May 2010, SRC had a meeting with Director of ITD. The Director said, their target is to ensure that the whole IIUM campus is covered by wireless connection. For the time being, only 50 to 60 users can access the internet at one point per time. However, the performance of the internet connection will be upgraded from time to time. Hopefully, all students can be patience while waiting for the upgrading process to be completed.
Furthermore, Director of ITD has recommended the students to have the original version of antivirus software. He said, many students has been using free version of antivirus and this is not good either for laptop or desktop where the protection is not at its optimum. This situation can affect the connection in IIUM because the biggest user of wireless in IIUM is students themselves. Hence, the Director recommended students to use F Secure antivirus available for purchase with the price of RM75 (for 3 users) at ‘IIUM Koperasi’ located at the center of IIUM.
UPGRADING THE STUDY ROOM
On April 2010, we managed to get the budget for upgrading the study room from Deputy Dean of Student Affairs. Furthermore, we have face lifted the study room in June with the help from the ENGINIUS XVI. The study room for sisters is at E1-3-13 and E1-3-15 is for brothers.
Unfortunately, some of the items that have been put in the study room have been removed by irresponsible student. As Muslim, this should not be happened. It is our responsible to take good care of what have been provided in the study room. We hope that it will not happen again in the future.
STANDARDIZATION OF THE FOOD PRICE
30th July 2008, the university has approved new selling prices for food and beverage. After a discussion, we managed to come out with pamphlets regarding the food prices. The pamphlets were already distributed to students. Kindly, please refer to SRC’s blog and Facebook for the pamphlet.
On 29th of June 2010, we once again sent a letter to Madam Nurul ‘Ain binti Mohamed Noor, Assistant Director of Facilities, Food and Services Department (FFSD). We had urged FFSD to immediately change the price poster at all cafeteria in IIUM with the new one so that the food prices will be updated.
Carbon copies of this letter has been sent to Prof. Dr. Nik Ahmad Kamal Nik Mahmod, Deputy Rector of Student Affairs, Dr. Nor Asiah Mohamad, Director of Student Development Division, Madam Haliza Hamzah, Head of Department, Assistant Director of Facilities, Food and Services Department, and Mr. Mohd Senu Awang, Deputy Director of Student Development Division.
According to FFSD, they did not receive any complaints from students regarding the food prices. Thus no action can be taken. As a student, we should know our right regarding the food prices. Any enquiries concerning the details of the food prices, or comment about the services and cleanliness of the café, please visit FFSD website and forward your complaints and suggestions to http://www.iiu.edu.my/ffsu.
PROMOTING IEM TO ENGINEERING STUDENTS
Regarding this issue, we already discussed it with Dr. Zuraida Ahmad, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs. Dr. Zuraida encouraged the students to join IEM (undergraduate). It is important for us to register with IEM because we will get some beneficiary. Furthermore, we are trying to work on this matter. Hope we can get something by this coming new semester 1, 2010/2011.
INSTALLATION OF ENGINEERING SOFTWARES IN GPCL
This suggestion was discussed with Bro. Nasaruddin (CSSU) but it is still under discussion between SRC and CSSU:
1. Limited amount of computer compare to the number of the student of KOE.
1.1 A few numbers of students can use the computer in one time.
1.2 The main purpose of lab is to provide internet services to the students in getting information.
2. It takes long time for student to finish the project using the software, this lead the other students to wait for long time.
3. Problem in saving their project since the software’s version of many students does not compatible with the software’s version in the lab.
4. The performance of computer will be slow since the specifications of the computer only suitable for internet surfing.
